9th International Festival Signes de Nuit

1994, HuBei province, mainland China, a farmer named SHE XiangLin was almost executed for murdering his wife. Ten years later, his wife, who supposed to be dead ten years ago, suddenly appeared in this small village after disappeared for ten years. Wrong victims, and therefore wrong convicts and wrong cases had been more and more discovered in mainland China from 2005-2010, some of the convicts were lucky and only stayed in prison for years but some were just not. A film dedicate to all these innocences and question the extortion of confession by torture behind these cases.

“This is my second documentary film, and it is fully composed of old people. One woman, nearing 80, is living out the last two years of her life. From when she is still using a cane to walk, to when she becomes paralyzed. This is my grandmother. We also see other elderly people from the village, their daily activities, the tales of their starvation from 50 years ago.”

FISDN 2011 : Honoring the (different) Worlds : Pointing Out

We present film series focused on 16 different countries and regions. This section intends to discover and explore different spaces and cultures with the aim to understand the specific regional, political and social circumstances, do reconstruct the emotional and intellectual spécificities of a special region or country. In this critical work we belief it's essencial to prefer films which rufuse, in its form and expression, the retake of sterotype ways of reality restituition, as an act of resistance in the actual period of "globalisation", which inclins to impose one dominating model of culture and habitutes.
