The Palast der Republik (Palace of the Republic) opened in 1976 as a meeting place for the East German people and an emblem of the future. The unique modern building made of distinctive golden-mirrored windows was home to not just the East German Parliament but also auditoriums, art galleries, five restaurants, concert halls, and even a bowling alley.

Alexej Tchernyi, filmmaker/animator (USSR 1976) & Wu Zhi, painter (P.R.China, 1972) are an artists couple, living and working in Berlin.One night last year, they wake up to a terrible news: Wu's Father (Dr. Rao) suffered a cardiac infarction and went into a coma. He only had few days left to live. The couple and their 1½ year old son immediately took a flight to China in order to reach Dr. Rao alive.

We prefer documentaries which succeed in representing the complexity of reality and discover in a new way its sensible and perturbing aspects on the same time accentuating the ambivalent and enigmatic status of reality in avoiding sterotypes and simplifing conclusions.
