The Hermit

L´hermite

Alberto Baroni
Italy / 2025 / 0:09:00

“The truth you seek, Hermit, did not come into this world bare, but came in images.” With this realization, a hermit traveling through India, suspended between meditation on Mount Arunachala in Tiruvannamalai and a trip to the temples of Mahabalipuram, reflects on the sense of images in the earthly dimension and, therefore, on the final meaning of his own spiritual pursuit.

Dreamt by Another

Vikki Bardot
Turkey / 2025 / 0:08:22

Dreamt by Another is an allegorical take on creating with artificial intelligence and a meditation on identity, memory, and love. Interweaving passages from Pinocchio (1883), The Velveteen Rabbit (1922), Frankenstein (1818), and Borges's The Circular Ruins (1940), the film builds a single narrative about coming into existence. It extends the lineage of wooden puppets, toys, and monsters into the realm of artificial intelligence, as the latest chapter in humanity's pursuit to make the unreal come alive. Rooted in Vikki Bardot's long-standing artistic practice of exploring visual textures and dreamlike aesthetics, the film asks: What does it take to become real?

A Robot of Me

Ron Chiers
Belgium / 2025 / 0:02:45

"A Robot of Me" is a short AI-generated film that plays out like a virtual reincarnation of Andy Warhol in the age of artificial intelligence. In an apparently mundane scene - Andy buying soup in a supermarket - a philosophical daydream begins to unfold.
The film echoes his famous quote: “Machines have less problems. I'd like to be a machine, wouldn't you?” and raises the question of how Warhol might engage today with social media, AI, deepfakes, and prompts.

Like Dew Before a Thunderbolt Vol.1

Benjamin Poumey
Switzerland /2025 / 0:04:50

1st volume of a collection of shorts films shot on Super 8 in Geneva, inspired by Jiseiku (farewell poems) written by Samurais in the 16th and 17th centuries. I was touched by these texts, and furthermore by this concept of 'writing a last poem before dying’.
Thus, in spite of the huge difference in cultures and eras, something has passed from these samurai to me.
Let's say that it's this ‘passage’ that I'm trying to find with the films. It could be likened to an exercise in ‘drifting’ or psychogeography. Between contemplation, thought flows and other visual wandering experiences, I'm shooting images in Geneva to share/recapture/transmit the impressions and emotions conveyed by the texts.

Precipice

Kent Tate
Canada / 2025 / 0:03:00

Humans create narratives about themselves then make great effort to conform reality to that narrative. This wasn't a threat to planetary survival 10,000 years ago when we were scattered in small bands worshiping local deities and relying on nearby gathered foodstuffs with only stone tools. It's quite another thing when we are packed into mega-cities with nuclear weapons and ambiguous connectivity with relationships imbued in instruments that far exceed an individual's capacity to fully comprehend or to reliably navigate our various systems.
The earth spins around the sun at 30 km/sec. The habitable atmosphere on this planet extends 6 km into space and is composed of distinct layers. The troposphere extends upward from the earth to a height of about 8 km at the poles, to about 11.3 km in mid-latitudes, and to about 16.1 km at the equator. The air in the troposphere is in constant motion, with both horizontal and vertical air currents. As we exert ever increasing control we inevitably invite ever increasing chaos.
The planetary boundaries framework defines a safe operating space for humanity based on the intrinsic biophysical processes that regulate the stability of the Earth system.
From global warming to the biosphere and deforestation, from pollutants and plastic to nitrogen cycles and freshwater: Six of nine planetary boundaries are being crossed, while simultaneously pressure in all boundary processes is increasing.

Weegee's New York

Eric Weeks
United States / 2025 / 0:08:00

Hi, my name is Weegee. I am a dog. On my license, it says I am a cockapoo, but I don’t know what that means. My parents adopted me five years ago and named me Weegee, after the famous photographer. They always tell me that I channel him, because I am a character, and hold my toys in my mouth like a cigar, just like the original Weegee. That guy called himself "Weegee the Famous", but I want to be famous-er.
My film furthers the understanding of the daily life of urban dogs. You will see through my eyes and my perspective. I am not sure how many humans understand how many tires we see on our daily walks. I sure do hope you like it.

The Land at Night

Richard Peter Tuohy
Australia / 2024 / 0:14:00

I used to find the dusk a very unsettling time, as though the approaching night was something to be feared. It was as if, once night fell you could not flee, and had to face unspecified consequences. Maybe the land remembers and the night will reveal what we might have done...
