Four young actresses fresh from acting school compete for a Playroom Attendant job, revealing their hopes, fears and ambitions.

Jury Statement :
Crude and moving almost tragicomedy about four young actresses desperately seeking for underpaid work. The filmmaker combines questions, answers and the bunny costumes in which the girls have to play and throws a glance at the ridiculous situation of unemployment in Bosnia and Herzegowina.

Ironical, dense and also funny portrait of more than a country. A young Filipina chats with her lover from abroad to convince him to buy her a new Computer. Shot in an single scene with a mobile phone the lover and we become witness of a murder when the girl went outside still chatting. Screens have become a constant witness of our everyday life to question the political reality of Philippines. This film aims the big picture at a hole globalized world where hunters and hunted are hard to define. A remark for the main actress’ work.

Director Statement :
On the current period in the Philippines, it is courageous to tell stories based in the real happenings in our country. “The Signs Award” is an encouraging recognition to our efforts on exposing social issues & enlightening people on truth. We are glad that our simple “mobile film” serves as an instrument to deliver strong message & show “signs of the night” to the world.

A tribute to indigenous wisdom and a contrast to our modern life, in which we often leave out the essential things. A little girl runs away from her dysfunctional family and meets an indigenous woman who sells ocarinas.

Jury Statement :
In contrast to our modern life the filmmaker shows the sicnificance of natural wisdom. A little girl who does not speak runs away from her ignorant family, carrying her turtle. An indigenous woman takes the girl to her home and gives her warmness and security without any spoken word, only the sound of the ocarina, a turtle ocarina, can be heard. A powerful work combining images and sounds in an original way with no necessity for words

To find the Day of 21st The main role is played by old family photographs. Illuminated by the beam of a flashlight like the objects of a treasure hunt, these pictures that are displayed pinned to a tatami mat present a strange scene. Encouraged to solve the mystery by the enigmatic developments surrounding a date that has been lost, we cannot follow this path to the “truth.” A work in which both the monologue and visuals make use of the immense power of poetry to deliver a message

Jury Statement :
There are hidden memories in fotos. But what if one day is missing? Kieko Ikehata shows family photographs and also shot family situations revealed by the fotos surrounding the date that has been lost. A work in which both the monologue and visuals make us of the immense power of poetry to deliver a message.

Director Statement :
I am honored to have the prestigious award "The Night Award". I was born in 1983. It was the first generation that grew up while having lots of photos and videos taken. While I looked back at these photos and videos many times, I began to feel them stronger than my memories. Because the recording is clearer, the memory is drowned out. When these records lost, I thought that my memories would be gone. But is it really so? On the contrary, maybe I recall by losing photos and videos? I made a work from such a doubt. I would be happy if I could hear everyone's impressions. I want to join this festival again!

A park in the fog. Crows flap and caw in the sky. A homeless man sleeps between the trees. A woman disappears. Now and then a crow is shot: as a deterrent. The crows rally after every shot. The police gather evidence. Reality and imagination become increasingly blurred. Fine cracks pervade everyday perceptions. Gradually we begin to suspect a new and unsettling reality behind the tangible world.

Jury Statement :
A woman disappears. Her story is wrapped in fog and flaps and caws of crows. All that is interwoven with the story of a homeless man. We never see a person but hear a shot and see a crow falling down. Blood is be seen on one of the surveillance cameras and unvoluntary we imagine the dead woman. Christine Hürzeler creates a mysterious and dismal world of unsecure anonymity.

Director Statement :
I am very honored to receive a Mention for the Night Award. It was our intention to keep emotions and mind moving. The idea was to create an atmosphere that makes the imaginary realm of our thoughts, feelings and fears become perceptible and real. Shooting Crows tells of the ever-shifting boundaries of perception. Thereby the crows are key to our fragile relationship with reality. Christine Hürzeler
