Rendezvous with the Viet Cong is five rebellious youngsters' travelogue set against the backdrop of political and social upheaval at the beginning of the 1970's. Through the 12 mins long short film, we follow their encounter with "sex, drugs and rock'n'roll", and how the changing political situation and the relations between them mark a turning point in their lives. The film is shot solely on handheld S8mm on location in Rondane national park (Norway), and its exploring, experimental form is evident throughout, both in terms of narrative and style.

When Norwegian-Turkish filmmaker Nefise was a child, she used to send balloon letters to Allah. Now she has decided to send a new balloon, in order to change the role of women in the Muslim culture. Following her grandmother’s “Sufi” path, she goes on a quest to find back to grandma’s Islam. The film shuttles between her actual journey and her dreams. She experiences the diversity of Cairo, Istanbul and Oslo by having tea with Egyptian feminist Nawal El Saadawi, finding inspiration in the life of 90-year-old author Gamal Al-Banna and meeting a young Islamic extremist. As she strolls through this maze of doors, it becomes clearer to her that maybe Islam is not the only place to look, and that there is a link between the three Abrahamic religions and the oppressions of women. This is Nefise Özkal Lorentzen’s second installment in her Islam trilogy, the first one being “Gender Me” from 2008, which focused on homosexuality. She will conclude the trilogy with a third film about masculinity in Islam.

We present film series focused on different countries and regions. This section intends to discover and explore different spaces and cultures with the aim to understand the specific regional, political and social circumstances, do reconstruct the emotional and intellectual spécificities of a special region or country. In this critical work we belief it's essencial to prefer films which rufuse, in its form and expression, the retake of sterotype ways of reality restituition, as an act of resistance in the actual period of "globalisation", which inclins to impose one dominating model of culture and habitutes..
