Since the Argentinean economic crisis of 2001, on the streets of Buenos Aires more than 6,000 “Cartoneros” push their handcarts to collect the recyclable material of the household waste. Despite their daily presence facets of their work are hidden to the urban population, as the waste collectors usually appear at dusk in trains and trucks from the poorest areas of the province. The film remains close to them and shows the stories behind their handcarts.

A group of volunteers from an Italian ONLUS started up a laboratory at Mundzuku Ka Yina of photos, videos and digital elaborations of images. The students are able to talk about their work and their daily life without the pity with which we are used to regarding this type of reality, thus shattering the taboos of the politically correct thanks to the sincere and authentic vision of the authors. By the way the term “frammenti” means a “puzzle” announcing a collectif work.

An international jury overview the sections of short films coming from all over the world. We prefer documentaries which succeed in representing the complexity of reality and discover in a new way its sensible and perturbing aspects on the same time accentuating the ambivalent and enigmatic status of reality in avoiding sterotypes and simplifing conclusions.
