My wife’s grandmother passed away at 98 years of age. The entire family took part in her funeral,I was one of one to two hundred descendants. This funeral felt like a celebration; it seemed a little unreal, somewhat like a musical, at times sad and at other festive, and I unexpectedly found myself right in the midst of it all. Memories of my wife’s grandmother danced through my mind along with the rhythm of the funeral music, taking me repeatedly away from the scene of the funeral and back again. Perhaps our grandmother below was also taking part in the great celebration we were holding for her. Director's statement about the film / Note d’intention du directeur This film is a poem about memories and a departure At her funeral, The memories that we held in our hearts danced in time with the music, and were transformed by various rites.

Israel vs. Israel
Israel vs. Israel

The struggle for democracy is now changing the history of the Middle East. Israel vs Israel is a film about Israelis standing up for peace, democracy and human rights. One grandmother, one rabbi, one anarchist and one ex-soldier – four Israelis trying to put an end to the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territories Israel vs Israel is an award-winning documentary about Jewish peace activists who in both words and actions take a stand again 40 years of occuaption and illegal settlements. The film portrays the dangerous struggle to somehow change the current situation and improve life for the Palestinians. In return, these activists face scepticism and hatred from fellow Israeli countrymen. Israel vs Israel reveals both sensitive family discussion as well as secret testimonies from former combat soldiers. These Israelis are often portrayed as naïve, unreliable and dangerous for the Jewish state. They are often ridiculed and demonised for their honest commitment. The fight for peace divides Israel.

October 5th - 16th 2011

An international jury overview the sections of short films coming from all over the world. We prefer documentaries which succeed in representing the complexity of reality and discover in a new way its sensible and perturbing aspects on the same time accentuating the ambivalent and enigmatic status of reality in avoiding sterotypes and simplifing conclusions.
