A couple of years ago, Christian moved to Cocachimba: a poor village
in the high jungle of Peru. Coming from the capital, the stigma of
being a city guy hinders his integration with the local peasants.
Nevertheless, he’s taken it upon himself to become one of them - it’s
what he calls his “game”. Through anecdotes of hallucinations and
fights, this newcomer sheds light on the gaps between two contrasting
cultures and mentalities that coexist in one country. |

Inspired by both Italian Renaissance paintings and contemporary news
broadcasts from Gaza protests at the border with Israel - the work
processes human gestures and figures in landscape into a dark and
colourful scramble. The work aims to open up an array of reflections,
including concerns about the political image, image of the political,
the politics of the image, and the image of image. |

Winter Solstice |

I am living in a state of permanent crisis.«
The experimental film »Winter Solstice« traces the feeling of
permanent crisis as political state. On a cramped subway an unseen
narrator has difficulties breathing. On their way to work they are
plunged into a crisis: they struggle with fragmentation, isolation and
the feeling to be stuck in the rat race of work without being able to
make a living. They depict the state of surviving in neoliberal
capitalism.
Associatively the essay outlines this state by cinematic means. The
documentary aims for a physical experience – the fragmentation of
montage hints at the fragmentation of the subjects: overstimulation,
being always available, examining each fibre of the self for usability
in the system, constant overload. But still not being able to pause.
We survive instead of living.
"Would it be possible that this crisis is also your crisis?" |

Wenhua Shi
China
2019 | 0:06:00
Wenhua took on a radical use of single frame image capture and
examines his strange and familiar hometown in China, which he has been
away from for nearly two decades. The film title comes from postwar
Japanese avant garde artist group Gu-Tai. The kanji ( Chinese) used to
write 'gu' means tool, measure, or a way of doing something, while
'tai' means body. The film is the result of intense looking and seeing
what might not be there. |

Thomas Stokmans

2018 | 00:07:00
In this musical debut film, there seems to be hardly any verbal
communication between a father and his young son. But when dad plays
his saxophone, the boy listens attentively. He gets a sip of dad’s
coffee. A very small, intimate film with its heart in the right place. |

The section "Cinéma in Transgression" offers middle or feature lengh films out of norm and order, between fiction and documentary, characterised by complex audio-visual languages, unpredictable associations based on unconcient, metaphorical and metonymical proceedings. In this way these films can express the complexity of reality.
