In the Democratic Republic of Congo, a group of Congolese youths has stood up without arms against their President who was determined to cling to power. As they fought, they have learned that success comes with a price. They are called La Lucha.
|
|
Jury Statement :
In this deep portrait of a young Congolese group, the camera gives us
an intimate look behind the scenes of some of the most important
political activists who are willing to sacrifice their lives, if
necessary, and thus successfully achieve their main goal, the
resignation of long-time Congolese President Kabila.
The jury was impressed by the long-term close personal contact between
the filmmaker and the protagonists of La Lucha, who in this way became
very familiar to the viewers.
A deep portrait of young Congolese political activists, who strive for
restoring democracy using gentle and peaceful methods.
The jury was impressed by the long-term close personal contact between
the filmmaker and the protagonists of La Lucha, who in this way became
very familiar to the viewers. "Congo Lucha" intimately shows us the
fundamental principles of freedom and sacrifice.

A puma stalks Pueblo Ranquel, an indigenous community in the middle of the desert. Uriel (11) and Isaías (13) are friends. They feed the dogs, and the teenagers take them to hunt. But a conflict appears between them because Isaías wants to hunt the puma, however the older ones don’t allow him because he is too young. Luana (12) arrives to the community and she also generates a silent rivalry between them. Finally, Isaías is accepted among the teenagers. In one of the hunting outputs, they wound the animal without killing it. Now, they just have to follow the blood trail and finish it. Growing up is going hunting, but Uriel feels himself more attached to the wounded animal and awaits the storm, so the water can erase its footprints.

|
Jury Statement :
A hybrid film seen through the eyes of a young boy set in an indigenous community in the middle of a desert. The jury was touched by the cinematographic storytelling, its pace as a slow narrative and its child’s perspective by which the story develops with almost no adults around. The film offers a sensitive and perturbing observation in the protagonist's universe where growing up means hunting.

On the remote New Siberian Islands in the Arctic Ocean, hunters are searching for the tusks of extinct mammoths. There is a gold rush fever in the air. The price for white gold has never been so high. The thawing permafrost not only releases precious ivory. The tusk hunters find a surprisingly well-preserved mammoth carcass. Such finds are magnets for high-tech genetic scientists. They want to bring the extinct woolly mammoth back to life à la “Jurassic Park”. Resurrecting the mammoth is a first manifestation of the next great technological revolution. Man becomes Creator. Genesis two point zero.
|
|
Jury Statement :
"Genesis 2.0" is a fascinating journey around the world. Two main
storylines - the hunt for mammoth ivory and scientists playing God
with DNA - are subtly interconnected to show the critical point of
scientific progress. This remarkable investigation brings up very
serious ethical questions and reveals the near future threats for
mankind caused by greed and pride.
