Audacia del tiempo |
PARIS PREMIERE
|
Marcela Alcalde
Libanon, Argentina
2017 | 00:03:00
"Audacia del tiempo" is an experimental short film based on a poem of
the same name, written by its author. It is a collage of images and
textures grasped by the echo of the passage of time in memory.
Audacity of time, get entangled in the dream or its symptomatic
equivalence ...
Opprobrium of a deranged and tiny Eros: the crouching loss in the
mute of waiting.

Making and Unmaking of the Earth |
|
|
Jessica Bardsley
USA
2018 | 00:17:00
"When one hears about another person's physical pain, the events
happening within the interior of that person's body may seem to have
the remote character of some deep subterranean fact, belonging to an
invisible geography that, however portentous, has no reality because
it has not yet manifested on the visible surface of the earth."
--Elaine Scarry, The Body in Pain
This film uses Scarry's metaphor of the earth and its geology in order
to explore experiences of physical and emotional pain, which can have
mysterious or unexpected sources and can go unnoticed by others.
Combining archival footage of earth processes with interviews of
mysterious experiences of physical and emotional pain, The Making and
Unmaking of the Earth turns to geology to make visible the often
invisible events happening inside of people. |

The Yellow Snake Is Waiting |
|
EUROPE PREMIERE
|
Tzu Huan Lin
Taiwan, USA
2017 | 00:18:00
Referencing French thinkers Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari’s
concept of “desiring machines,” Tzu-huan LIN questions the autonomy of
desire mechanisms through video that portraying life in eternity in
The Yellow Snake is Waiting. LIN cites three classic allegories of
desire—Chinese Emperor Qin Shihuang’s quest for eternal life, serpent
in the Garden of Eden, and Medusa’s tale—and furthermore sheds light
on how to free oneself from desires based on Zhuangzi’s philosophy of
the Butterfly and the Fish. Incorporating his own dreams, LIN weaves
the three stories together: Emperor Qin longs for eternal life despite
having absolute power; the serpent of desire is the only being that
could converse with humans in the Garden of Eden; Medusa’s head turns
into a machine of desire to which venomous snakes are forever
anchored... The video features various forms of desire in LIN’s
dreams. Zhuangzi’s pursuit of spiritual freedom is highlighted through
the artist’s attempt to search himself and happiness.

FRENCH PREMIERE

Kieko Ikehata
Japan
2017 | 00:13:38
The main role is played by old family photographs. Illuminated by the
beam of a flashlight like the objects of a treasure hunt, these
pictures that are displayed pinned to a tatami mat present a strange
scene. Encouraged to solve the mystery by the enigmatic developments
surrounding a date that has been lost, we cannot follow this path to
the “truth.” A work in which both the monologue and visuals make use
of the immense power of poetry to deliver a message.

The section "Cinéma in Transgression" offers middle or feature lengh films out of norm and order, between fiction and documentary, characterised by complex audio-visual languages, unpredictable associations based on unconcient, metaphorical and metonymical proceedings. In this way these films can express the complexity of reality.
