A boatwoman who makes a living with carrying passengers encounters a prostitute who travels sometimes with her. She asks the boatwoman to take her somewhere around the marsh. The prostitute asks her to have an eye on her in case she gets delayed. After a few minutes, she hears the sound of something breaking and enters the conflict between the prostitute and her customer to support her. This happening leads to closeness between these two women. When the boatwoman comes back home and sees her husband carousing with his friend, she decides to abandon the home forever.

|
Jury Statement :
Besides and beyond the devastating problem of prostitution and the
treat of the human female body, the jury did appreciate the positive
message to all women for solidarity between each other. The film is
giving chance to go ahead and makes evident that Love, as in its sense
as Eros, is the moving principle of the human being relationship.
Giving the main award of the International Festival Signs of Night, to
Revolt, is transmitting a strong message that another way of living is
always possible so one should never give up.

In the middle of a hot Texas summer, plans for a babysitter fall
through and six-year-old Caroline is left in charge of her two younger
siblings.
|
|
Jury Statement : The Jury of the International Festival Signs of Night is giving a
special mention to Caroline and is expressing a huge empathy for the
female parent condition. The movie is strongly denouncing the society
pressure criminalizing mother’s position instead of taking care of the
every day living conditions and the lifestyle of its citizens.
Children condition is denouncing as well and reproaching to the
society in which they are forced to survive. Special congratulations
for actors staring. |

Two everyday people meet in the dark. The darkness of an invisible
exhibition. Through the film we follow them as they get closer and
move apart from each other by crossing blurry boundaries.
Boundaries that exist between and within people and are mostly
invisible. Not only for the blind.
|
|
Jury Statement :
In this very sensitive short film, the filmmaker creates and depicts a
meaningful yet fragile encounter which says a lot about human nature,
relationships and contemporary ways of life. The comedians are
incredibly sober and just in rendering this ephemereal meeting between
two people, two planets crossing their paths for a short time. The
simplicity and the harshness of human communication and of the
differences which bond and divide us all are treated in a very
delicate, realistic and poetic way

While on vacation with his girlfriend, Gijs receives a phone call from
his mother, that reveals her troubled mental state and their complex
relationship.
|
|
Jury Statement :
For sensibly original and honest approaches to the worlds of people
who meet the complicit situations of the minds of relatives who they
love. Mental illness still tends to be a tabu in our actual society
and it is important for filmmakers to search new ways how to with
respect and understanding talk about the shadows of our minds.

A man who wants to pass the border, disguises himself as a ram.
|
|
|
|
Jury Statement :
For creating a truly mysterious and at the same time honest story
towards it's main character - a man, an animal, a being into need of
transformation.
Director succeeds to talk not only about human labyrinths of
existence, but of something so actual in nowadays world - borders that
needs to be crossed.
|
Director Statement :
It is our honor to be selected at your festival. If I want to say
about our film, I should say for me and Bahman “Animal” started from a
funny story in which we were waiting to enter the exam location but we
were not let in because it was the professors’ lunch time. Meanwhile,
a cat easily crossed the fence and got to the location. It made us
laugh that a cat can go there but we are not allowed to. Then we
developed this idea and got to “animal”.
This was a small idea that tried to expand and have a global message
and we are happy that the jury heard and saw what we said. |

At the end of summer, Rosa arrives at her husband’s resort – a small
hotel in the vast dry steppe, to check on staff and collect the
accounts. An unexpected encounter interrupts the routine of her stay
and awakens long gone passion for swimming.
|
Jury Statement :
The poetic and very particular charisma of Rosa's character, her
wandering through life in its repetitive and then surprising aspects
deeply touched us. The filmmaker manages to create a mysterious and
rich univers in which meaning are obscure, creative and sensitive.

Night Walks Julie Rodrigue
Bosnia and Herzegovina
2017 | 0:25:00
A young woman spends long days working in an exiguous shop and in the
evening she goes back to her small apartment to take care of her
father. Passing by from one cramped place to another, she wants to
change her life for a wider space. In this moment of transition from
one place to another, she meets someone who offers to her the
opportunity of a complete change of scenery.
This movie was directed by Julie Rodrigue with Selma Hajri? working at
her mother's little shop (Aida Hajri?), in Sarajevo. Selma is watching
people passing by through the window of her mother's shop and dreams
of leaving.
|
|
Jury Statement :
Wonderfully shot and cinematographed, rich in amazing and meaningful
visual details, this film subtly depicts the routinely yet erratic
itineraries of the female protagonist, her doubts, her states of mind.
A real, moving, visionary travel through a hard yet delicate story.
|
Director statement :
Thank you very much to the jury for sharing their thoughts about my
movie, it's very rare and interesting to have such a feedback.
I worked with Selma the main protagonist and her mother Aida, in her
shop in Sarajevo and this was a very interesting experience to work
with non-actors and to create a movie together because the limits
between documentary and fiction were constantly questioned. The
reality inherent to the film was related to what existed effectively.
