The loss of youth, social and professional activity intensifies the old man’s obsessions and he is found desperately trying to find meaning in his life. His fixation with «making money» takes him through the day without being touched by the loneliness of his wife.

Semalu, which means sensitive plant in Malay, is a cinematic portrait of the abandoned children of Cheras, a suburb in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A place in a process of modernization. Between a noisy landscape of construction works we see the next generation grow up. The ancestors of these children came here to build a new future. 30 years ago this territory was still jungle and swamp. Far away from the jungle this will be be the kids’ new urban residence. Semalu is a dark, yet magical journey along their concrete playground. |

Memories of other movies and the possibilities of film montage lead the viewer’s fantasies into a realm of déjà-vu he trusts - but which at the same time he perceives as both alien and new. Cinema, art, dance and sports, as well as detached views at these worlds, are some of the subjects in this patchwork-parcours through film history

An arab passing by is very useful...a metaphoric abyssal story concerning the conflict in Palestine.

The festival prefers film treating important subjects in an original way, films which don't avoid ambiguity and complexity, films, which are sometimes stay enigmatic, so that refection and mind are going on moving, exceptional films, which covers all kind of artistically expressions, films open for esthetical innovation, shortly films reflecting the perturbing strangeness of the modern world in a complex way.
