Inspired by Georges Perec’s A Man Asleep (Un homme qui dort), A Woman Asleep examines contemporary alienation in a world shaped by permanent connectivity and endless information. Through a shifting group of women, the film observes a society that remains constantly active and alert, while the human spirit slowly drifts into sleep. Created entirely with artificial intelligence, and narrated through the director’s own voice clone, the film uses synthetic aesthetics to mirror a society that continues to look, yet no longer truly sees or feels. The film’s original, semi-autobiographical script took shape over two years, from her notes, memories, and intertextual references. In the footsteps of Resnais, Marker, Antonioni, and Akerman, the film adopts an essayistic tradition, moving through a dreamlike atmosphere where fiction, memory, and reflection begin to blur.
