On May 12, 2008, the largest earthquake in China’s history devastated the Wenchuan region, shattering the landscape and destroying the lives of millions. Visiting his parents’ home, director Tao Gu captured fragmented testaments to this physical and emotional devastation to create this subtle and powerful experimental documentary.

A woman arrives at a port town in an unknown country as dawn turns to day. Her recounted stories begin to contradict themselves as she travels across the landscape. She is searching for something, a shape or a structure, which we are not even sure exists. Along the road she is eventually forced into initiating the process of self-reckoning. As her artifice begins to fall away she finds herself continuing her journey but now with a sense of resolution.

Breaking up a loving relationship implies the sensation of our self-awareness loss.Despite the banalization of media and the experiences around love, the break-up is still a wound where the shattered individual pulses.I have created the Broken Heart Museum social network and collected anonymous testimonies through Skype as poetical material to develop this cartography of love.
