Les murs souffrent d’eczéma, de furoncles et de plaies suintantes ; l’immeuble est vivant mais il est malade. A building becomes so affected by the atmosphere left behind by people that it develops an allergic reaction. Walls suffer rashes, boils and weeping sores – the building is alive but it is sick.

Vigilanti Cura

 

Réalisation / Filmmaking: Derek Woolfenden France 2005 / DV / 0:19:00 Pie XI dédia, le 29 juin 1936 à l’adresse de tous ls évêques catholiques des Etats-Unis, son encyclique pontificat Vigilanti Cura aux „spectacles cinématographiques“, justifiant son intervention par „les tristes progrès de l’art et de l’industrie cinématographique dans la divulgation du péché et du vice“. Le réalisateur reprend ainsi le titre pour son film, le détournant de sa fonction première, vers un usage contraire. On June 29th 1936, Pope Pie XI, adressing to all the catholic bishops in the United States, dedicated his encyclical pontificate Vigilanti Cura to the “cinematic spectacle”, justifying his intervention because of “the sad progress of art and the industry of cinema in the divulgation of sin and vice”. The filmmaker re-uses the title for his movie, in order to turn it away from its original meaning towards its contrary.

La caméra filme en temps réel un homme qui danse seul sur la chaussée. Précise, elle indique la date, le 12 juillet 2006: c’est le début de la guerre. malgré le calme et la beauté ds mouvements, malgré l’image floue et ralentie, une menace plane. Ce film expérimental, tout en musique et en lenteur, laisse pressentir l’omniprésence de la violence. Night in the streets of Beyrouth. The camera shoots in real time a man on the pavement. It indicates the date with precision: July 12th 2006: it’s the beginning of the war. Despite the calm and beauty of movements, despite the blurry and slow picture, a menace is hanging. This experimental film, filled with music and tardiness, lets us feel the omnipresence of violence.

Un homme commence à se remuer, il trouve quelquechose d’étrange dans le chant de l’oiseau ; il ressemble plus à une composition musicale complexe qui monte graduellement en intensité, et atteint un crescendo. Ainsi commence un voyage de transformation qui force l’homme de confronter la nature de la réalité et de la perception. Apparently normal day, outside the birds are singing. Mn begins to stir, there’s something odd about the birdsong - sounding more like a complex musical composition it gradually builds in intensity, as it reaches a crescendo. Thus begins a journey of transformation which force him to confront the nature of reality and perception.

Since then, no American has ever landed on the moon again, but on this side of the outer space, the adventure is keeping on...

A woman looks at the camera. “I am a dominating woman and my only master is God”, and she begins to undress without ever unveiling her face. Even then, her complexity and ambiguity remain intact.

Réalisation / Filmmaking: Ricardo Mbarkho Liban / Lebanon 2007 * DV * 0:03:36   This video questions the mobility of the Arameans in the Lebanese social context; this is through the example of an Assyrian woman who has undergone one of the explosions in Beirut. Since they moved from Iraq, until their departure from Syria, are the Arameans who hold their language and their religion pursued again by terrorism in Lebanon?
