Art's specular reflections about the art of the future. To break free
from cynicism and decadent reality, the art of the future must
vanquish fear and begin its journey to the other side of the mirror:
the journey towards truth.

Marionette |

Marcin Podgorny
Poland
2017 | 0:12:25
The title character, Marionette, tries to wake up from lethargy and
take the control over her own existence. However, even the slightest
movement of hers is carefully followed by the intricate mechanism,
determined to restore the former order of things.
longer:
There is a mysterious interior with a ballerina trapped inside - she
is the title character, Marionette. She is hanging from the chains
with her arms spread out, sunk deeply in lethargy. Somehow, she wakes
up and her awakening breathes life into another film character – an
intricate mechanism, determined to restore the former order of things.
After coming back to life, the ballerina dares to escape. She is
running through the labyrinth of narrowing corridors, slowly falling
into madness. Her mind is illustrated by the oneiric interior
resembling the shape of a box with a moth inside, trying to get out
and fly to the light. By the time the ballerina reaches the deepest
and darkest recess of the labyrinth, she is already out of her mind
and comes back to the place she came from. The mechanism goes silent,
satisfied with achieving its purpose. The story comes full circle.

‘Lost in a dream ... all I understand is a broken noise ...’
Quotidian accoutrements frame and sound the domestic scenario of a
figure preparing cakes, voiced by reveries at the kitchen sink ...
turned to existential reflections on time, motherhood and noise.

#Water /knowhowknow is a fictionalized documentary and a visual sound
poem about our relationship with the ocean,- investigations based on
the local situation from the Froan edging the Norwegian sea to the
inner Trondheim fjord. We are all local inhabitants and global
participants. The film with the sound composed by Maja Solveig
Kjelstrup Ratkje, takes us through the fisheries down to the bottom of
the ocean and its inhabitants, through historical flashes, boat
building traditions, human vulnerability and hybris, subsea
technologies and aquafarming watched by the mythical figurine "Guri
Kunna" of the Froan sea - whom represent the forces of the oceans and
the ancient knowledge of how to live with the sea. This is the first
chapter in the short film series Knowhowknow investigating human
relationship to its surroundings. The original title #Tjaetsie is
water in the south Sami language.

The main role is played by old family photographs. Illuminated by the
beam of a flashlight like the objects of a treasure hunt, these
pictures that are displayed pinned to a tatami mat present a strange
scene. Encouraged to solve the mystery by the enigmatic developments
surrounding a date that has been lost, we cannot follow this path to
the “truth.” A work in which both the monologue and visuals make use
of the immense power of poetry to deliver a message.

Nine-year-old Zhu Meijing always goes to the film sets alone. Through
a tutor of the orchestra, she got a part in a child movie, to play a
bit of the flute. The leading actress Hanhan somehow cried and
screamed all day, for which the shooting could not proceed. The
director had to change the actress, and Meijing was asked to play the
Chinese traditional instrumental music “Fisherman’s Song at Sunset”.
After a frustrating day, Meijing got home, feeling the air was even
colder than her loneliness.

The section "Cinéma in Transgression" offers middle or feature lengh films out of norm and order, between fiction and documentary, characterised by complex audio-visual languages, unpredictable associations based on unconcient, metaphorical and metonymical proceedings. In this way these films can express the complexity of reality.
